My play is a one-woman show about an anthropologist who is in her eighteenth month observing apes in the African jungle without any human contact. In exceptional circumstances (if you do not have access to a computer), we will accept postal submissions. We do not publish children's novels.īefore submitting your work, we suggest that you look through the books on our website to see if your style fits into our programme. We also publish a limited number of information books for up to nine years old, which are usually engineered and interactive. We try to reflect various families and avoid gender, disability or racial stereotyping. (Use your header command in your word processor.) For a one act play, use Arabic numerals: 1, 2, 3, etc. Page numbers appear in the upper right hand corner of the page. Our books cover many different subjects, but all are written within the context of a diverse and international society. The first page of the play is the page on which the first scene begins. We use a number of independent illustrators and do not require manuscripts to arrive with illustrations. Picture books are highly illustrated generally they are 32 pages with a maximum of 1,500 words of text. When this interaction is tactile it is always an integral part of the story. Many of our books contain an element of interaction, lift-up flaps, pop-ups, dials etc. Board books are generally 12 pages and reflect experiences relevant to the age group. Sometime after the processing by Turkow, YIVO staff produced a handwritten inventory list of the play manuscripts. We publish a large number of board books for babies and toddlers. Most of the play manuscripts in this subseries were organized and arranged by Jonas Turkow at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research in New York, in the late 1950s to mid 1960s. Our programme is extremely diverse although in the main it is focused on the under fives. We are happy to accept manuscripts, but as we are sent so many it is worth considering whether they will fit in with our programme before sending them. If we are able to offer any further support to a writer, our dramaturg will be in touch to discuss.Update for 2023: Please note that we are currently overwhelmed with manuscript submissions but we will try our best to respond to each one. Reports from readers and recommendations are shared with our Dramaturg, Artistic Development team and Artistic Director Jackie Wylie.
